Wear Everything in Your Closet

Corina- Viejas, do you wear all the clothes and accessories you own? In 2023, one of my goals is to make sure I wear everything I own and reduce the number of shopping trips and items I buy. Remember our post - 8 Ways to be a Vieja with Style - Have an Organized closet? Well, it is that time of year to organize and declutter our closets. It is time to try and experiment with everything in our closet and decide what to keep and wear and what items need to move on to their next stage: donating, consignment, recycling, or repurposing.
This picture shows a dress I bought at a closeout sale at a price no one could resist, so I did not try it on. Unfortunately, once I got home and tried to put it on it did not make it past my waist. Since I could not return it and we must wear everything in our closet I decided to cut it almost to my waist. I brought it to the tailor to have it hemmed and now I wear it as a tunic; over pants.
This practice is also about sustainability and doing our part to reduce waste and the impact that fast fashion has on the environment.

Ana- I would say my closet is about 34 years old. At 23 I was already selecting and buying clothing to "feed it". As I shared in our post: Coats & Winter Jackets , buying a winter coat for that closet was my first experiment with economic independence.
I did recycle that coat- that meant so much to me-and eventually had to buy a replacement which; I do not use!
As part of our pledge, I am on my way to transforming that coat into another piece of clothing; one that I will wear.
Here is the coat I do not use and next to it is a picture of what I will be transforming it to. I am only on my way there; and so excited, that I am already styling it with possibilities.
Viejas, in 2023, let's make it all about "shopping our closets"!
I think you are both very creative and artistic! Great ideas!
