The Cape: A Fashion Icon through the Ages
Corina – capes, wraps, shawls, ponchos are not the same garment, although some of us might use the term interchangeably. What all have in common is that they are sleeveless and there is no right or wrong way to wear this outer layer. In traditional neutral colors, bold patterns or as a statement piece (think fringe, embroidery, bold colors...) the styling possibilities are endless. Personally, I like these garments because they are cozy, comfy, timeless, perfect for layering and they also cover any “problem area” without compromising style. Viejas, whether you are inspired by the Ugly Betty Poncho, the iconic orange and yellow one from the Devil Wears Prada or the infinite styles from the runway make sure you try one of these pieces this fall or winter.
Ana- A Vieja’s biggest superpower is being comfortable growing old. Being “comfortable in your own skin” takes new meaning with every burst of wrinkles, coarse hair, and crepey skin; that comes over you.
Wearing a cape makes me feel powerful and feminine which helps me reset my reaction to becoming older; every time. It accentuates and softens my style.
I own a shawl-cape gifted by Corina and a poncho-cape gifted by Adrian (one of my sons).
When I wear my capes I feel like I am floating and I am grounded. My capes seem to embody the contradictions inherited in how I feel about growing old.
They also make me feel very stylish!
