Sustainable and Cool
Corina- Sustainable fashion can have different meanings depending on personal preferences or the business manufacturing the product. For me sustainability is about reusing, recycling and having pieces that stand the test of time. I swap clothes with friends, buy at consignment shops, repair/redesign clothes that do not fit properly and I have also borrowed a dress or two for a special occasion. Recently, I read my friend Lara's post on sustainability and her version of thrifting https://lara.earth/i-love-thrift-stores/ which gives great advice for buying at vintage and thrift shops. Can't wait to try some of her practices!
These pictures show a classic wool winter coat, one of my favorite secondhand items.
Ana- There is a lot more focus on sustainable ware now that there ever was in my younger years. I love the new generations for leading the way in this front. In a previous blog, Corina and I talk about Jeans. In that blog I spoke about having jeans as a go to staple in my closet.
Corina spoke about her beautiful jean jacket collection on one of our previous blogs. At the time, I did not remember that I too; own a jean jacket. This one; my only one; is an art piece, and a great example of sustainable style. I bought it maybe 10 years ago in an arts an craft bazaar in Maryland. Every time I wear it I get many compliments. I have been thinking a lot about sustainability and style. Viejas, we too can do sustainable in many ways. We can recycle our fashion by taking care of our clothes, giving or selling gently used cloths, and we can definitely buy cools pieces made from recycled materials like this one!
