Style Passes down from Viejx* (bee-eh-x) to Viejas (bee-eh-has)
Our mother always credited her mother with having influenced her own sense of style. As I (Ana) searched for pictures of my grandmother's style; I could barely find any.
What I did find instead were pictures of my grandfather (her husband). His style just blew me away. Talk about attention to detail. This man did not leave anything to chance.
My youngest son admires someone who looks "put together". He says: "It takes a lot of effort to look put together. Putting that much time into how they look shows they care, and this is important to me".
I think his great grandfather was definitely an archetype of someone who knew how to look put together. Don't you agree?
I (Corina) have to agree that style, wardrobe care, and fashion etiquette is learned for the most part from the adults around you. Our grandmother was a big influence in our lives when it came to being a "proper lady". I always remember her endless advice on the importance of always looking "put together"and showing that we care about ourselves. She emphasized the fact that there should never be any excuse for not looking your best. Our grandmother shared with us how she had learned to sew during "hard times"so she could not only mend clothes but repurpose them. She would take my grandfather's old suits and taylor them into "new" dresses and suits for herself which she would wear for church on Sundays. Love this picture of my grandmother in the late 1950's. Who would have thought of wearing gloves and a stole in Maracaibo, Venezuela? I say...only a vieja with style!
