Spring 2024 Shoe Trends -

Corina – What is new or coming back this spring when it comes to shoes?  

Viejas, start digging into the depths of your closet because if you are in your 60’s like I am you have worn them all. Just like me you might have also saved your favorite pairs waiting for the return of the trend. I am talking about sling-backs, peep-toes, kitten heels and platform shoes. 

Of course, there might be styles that we never stopped wearing. In my case, some variation of the platform shoes and sling-backs have always been and continue to be part of my wardrobe. Peep-toe shoes, not so much but I do own some pairs. The only style I have never worn and still won’t wear are kitten heels; not because I don’t like them, but because I cannot walk in them.  

Ana- Growing up in Venezuela in the seventies platforms shoes were worn by both men and women. The ones for men were called "machotes (tough guys)" and a dear friend of ours made them his everyday uniform.

Chicken legs paired with oversized shoes has never been much of an inspiration to me.

Bratz dolls were not invented until 2001 and I was already in my forties so I was not really paying attention to dolls.

Given my long skinny legs, sling backs and kitty hills are the shoe style I am more comfortable in.

In a few years the height of my heels will be half what they are today but I will continue to wear shoes with streamline silhouettes. Even my "loafers" are narrow and pointy. Nothing chunky in my future; although now that I think about it; perhaps a chunky lower heel.
