Mix Your Metals
Ana- One of our readers asked us: "When I accessorize, can I mix metals? Is there a rule that says I shouldn't?" I say, vieja, go ahead and mix your metals.
I remember in my teens there was this unspoken rule that you should never mix silver and gold. Today it feels like anything goes. I like mixing it up for a more modern eclectic look. I can have gold in one hand and silver in another. A silver necklace and gold earrings. I specially like a belt that used to be my mom's that has all types of metals in it. Every time I put in on it adds a touch of modern to my outfit.
Corina- YES, I definitely mix my metals! The "matchy-matchy" days of -just wearing one type of anything and being too coordinated- are over. Still, when mixing metals it is important to have balance. Starting with a combined metal piece and building around it; is key for bringing the look together. As I mentioned in our accessory post I like to stack and layer my necklaces, bracelets and rings in different metal combinations. I also like to mix metallics when it comes to belts, bags and shoes. What I love the most is that metals are neutral. Whether it's silver, gold, bronze or rose gold, any combination of metals always feels stylish.
Go girls! Mix and match!
