Loosen the Knot or Lose the Tie?
Ana- The days of seeing my husband wearing a tie are long gone. Ties were destined to die in the carrousel displays at the mall; or so I thought. Viejas, it turns out, the 80s businessman look was the central theme of the Saint Laurent S/S 25 collection and we owe the Croatians big time for the 'cravat'. Wait; what?
Yes, don’t walk,... run to your spouse or father’s closet and grab one of those 1980s ties. I did! and found a tie I thought I had lost. It is whimsical and it is about 30 years old. My husband bought it for me when we took our first born to Universal Studios for the first time.
Loosen the classic knot; after all our necks can not show off a chocker tie, anymore. Weave them, or simply use them as a scarf. Necktie blouses or skirts? Definitely not for me.
There is nothing stiff about the comeback of the necktie. It is a wonderful and versatile accessory.
Let the necktie take a hold if you; even if it is only on necktie day (October 18th every year). Just don’t let it choke you.
Corina – I was so excited about seeing ties in the pictures from the 2025 runway shows and fashion news. I love men inspired looks and the tie is one of my favorites. At once I thought of Diane Keaton’s fashion in the movie Annie Hall, Princess Diana’s suits with ties in the 80s and Victoria Beckman’s ties in the early 2000s. All of them wearing ties in their own way, showing their individual style.
I wore ties back in the 80s and 90s Viejas, I am wearing them again.
I like to wear my neckties with button down shirts sometimes adding a vest in what might be considered a “traditional look”, but I also like wearing them with a collarless shirt or a
t-shit and a jacket. Another alternative I like is folding and tying a silk scarf around my neck, so it looks like a tie. Viejas, this coming season buy one, borrow one or make one, the possibilities are endless!
