The second item on our list of eight things to be a ViejawithStyle is critical to always looking your best.

Bodies are not created equal, and neither are fashion trends. Having a good understanding of our body shape is not only important for our health and diet but also for being stylish. With the endless list of choices out there when it comes to clothes, knowing our body shape; the “problem areas” and the areas to highlight, helps identify the right cuts and styles when buying different garments.

Corina- I have a pear body shape –hips are wider than the upper body. When buying clothes, I search for:

  • Fit/flare and A-line dresses/skirts and tunics

  • Dark bottoms

  • Open necklines

  • Crop Jackets


Ana- I have a rectangle body shape- straight silhouette with long legs. When buying clothes, I look for:

  • Low raise bottoms to accentuate hips

  • Tops with high neck and lower back

  • Overall slim fit to create curves

  • Bold patterns (regardless of color)

Remember vieja- regardless of body type, if you do not feel comfortable, confident, and fabulous when wearing it do not even bother buying it!
