Feeling Bargain, Boujee or Basic?
Corina – Ana and I are always talking about how style reflects our personality and our mood any given day. When we saw Martyswt Instagram about being basic, bougie or bargain I was immediately able to identify with its content as it relates to my outfits. Although these words can have different meanings; for me, it evokes positive feelings. I love finding and wearing a Bargain especially if it is a high-quality item that is not usually within my budget. Yes, I know designer logos are considered Boujee but sometimes if you really love it...why not? And what about the Basic sneakers? I love a pair! I wear them with anything and everything and feel fabulous!
Ana- After I heard Martyswt reel; in insta I thought: How do I feel about this?. As a vieja, I struggle with trendy vocabulary and its true meaning. I do get in trouble for it!
However, I am going to take a chance and say that at any given time my style can project either one, a combination, or all three of these words: Bargain, Boujee*, and Basic**. I do not think these "vibes" are mutually exclusive.
For example, Corina and I love a good find. For me a good find is a a Bargain that looks Boujee.
And; who says Basic is not a thing? Viejas, how many times have you put on a pair of jeans and your favorite T-shirt and felt confident and fabulous? or edited down an outfit that was at risk of looking too "over the top"?
When we edit our outfits and simplify them we often look classic and sophisticated. I even have the one brand top from the 90s so I ran to take it out of the drawer!
I am sure my interpretation of these words gave me away. I am not from this generation. I am a vieja. A Basic, Bargain, Boujee, and one time brand ViejawithStyle!.
* In this post, we used Boujee to mean aspirational or expensive looking fashion.
** In this post we use Basic to mean decluttered/minimalist and enduring fashion
It all comes down to how you put it together. Someone confident and considering how the pieces fit together makes basic items (in the negative interpretation of the word) look stylish and fantastic.
