Fabulously Gray
Updated: Dec 11, 2022
I (Corina) have been gray most of my adult life. My wiry, coarse gray strands started showing up in my twenties, I had salt and pepper hair by my mid-thirties and I have been completely "silver" for almost two decades. For me (maybe because my hair changed so early) gray has never been about "aging" or feeling "old" it has always been just my hair color. Having said that, I have always taken good care of my gray, unruly and frizzled hair. I've always searched for a hair dresser who knows what to do with it as well as I've always been willing to try different hair styles that complement my gray color and hair texture. In addition to regular trims, I use a"purple shampoo"at least once a week (prevents brassy tones) and use leave-in conditioner every time I wash my hair. On days when my hair gets really crazy I use a "weightless" coconut oil mist or a shine serum. I receive many compliments about my hair, and sometimes I do get asked why I don't color it. I could come up with a long list of reasons but the reality is I love my gray, I always have, it is part of what makes ME.
I (Ana) always wanted to have highlights but never wanted to spend a lot of time at the hair salon. There were always so many other places I wanted to be. I also never really knew what color highlights would have looked natural with my hair color. I remember one night (in my twenties) as I was getting ready for a halloween party and I sprayed silver paint on my hair and thought: " Wow! That is how my hair would look with highlights. I like it. I guess I have to wait until I am older". Now is that time, I finally got my highlights. Like Corina, I wish the texture of my grey strands was still smooth; but we cannot have it all-now can we?
But don't you remember, "What number is on the box?"
