Dance & Fashion
Ana- I have been in love with dance all my life. My mom put me in ballet when I was 9 years old. I had two teachers. One was an older gentleman who did not speak Spanish and was confined to a wheel chair, the other was the most beautiful and elegant woman I had ever seen. She would speak to the gentleman in english and then would demonstrate what he wanted us to do. I learned the language of dance and found my forever reference of beauty.
I have never worn ballet flats but I wore off the shoulder sweaters and leg warmers over jeans during the 80's.
These days, I gravitate towards garments that convey a lot of movement and are very structured and architectural; at the same time. This juxtaposition reminds me of the strength of classical ballet and flow of the more modern expressions of dance. I love "palazzo" and seventies pants, dusters, and tunics. I love asymmetry and straight lines as well as unfinished hems (with a purpose). Viejas, when I go out I need my cloths to move with me.
Corina – Dance wear has influenced fashion trends throughout the decades. If you have been around long enough, you probably have worn many or a few of them.
I wore the torn and off-the-shoulder sweatshirt and leg warmers “Flashdance style” of the 80’s.
I also wore the sequins, halter tops, and jersey wrapped around dresses of the “Disco Era”. Who can forget the cropped cardigans, body suits and tulle skirts? Or my favorite; ballerina inspired flats? which by the way; never seem to go out of style.
Viejas, I always have some variation of a ballerina flat in my closet. How about you?
When I try on shoes or boots, I have to be able to tap ~ time steps ~ comfortably!!! 😉
