Breaking Up It's Hard To Do

Viejas,  there is something sentimental about parting ways with certain garments or accessories.

Ana - The phrase “you do not know what you have until it's gone” is true for me. When I see a garment I love, and I am thinking about sending it off; I immediately look at the tag. This is something I never do when I buy them, but I feel compelled to know what I am giving up. I have an embroidered dress which you may have seen me wear in previous posts.  It’s now tight around my mid-section but I love the top part of it. It is a sequin A.J Bari (yep; first time I looked at the tag). These vintage dresses are now flooding the internet with a price tag between $100 to $700. Viejas, I am not parting ways with this dress. I will turn mine into a top or tunic so I can give it a new life and keep it with me.  I have already started mourning a Barami black and white top. It’s a blend of cotton and spandex but it has shrunk and now exposes my belly. This is just not cute anymore. I cannot compromise this awful look for any garment, no matter how dear it is to me. Bye, Bye Barami!

Corina – I do keep my closet organized and I declutter often; however, I am guilty of keeping items that I don’t wear any longer because they are too small, too old, or they just don’t meet the three Fs (fit, flattering and fabulous) anymore. For example: my beloved Theory tweed crop jacket that it's now too short and too tight or my Alexia Admor little black and white dress which is about 10 inches too small on the hips. When it comes to shoes, I am also guilty of keeping a few pairs that I just cannot walk in without probably falling, because they are about 6 inches way too high. I have not been able to get rid of them. Nor have I been able to part with this pair of Modern Vintage Stiletto Rx suede wedges that I have not worn in years.

Viejas, we know purging can be difficult and it can be very emotional to let go. However, revisiting the items in your closet is always an opportunity to find new looks, fall in love again with things you already have, or let go and enjoy the here and now.
