Blending In or Standing Out: Finding the Right Amount of Camouflage

Corina - There are hundreds of camouflage patterns used around the world and at least ten “families of patterns” used for different environments (e.g. Jungle, desert). Honestly, I cannot name any of them or tell who wears any specific type. I only understand what Vogue magazine calls “fashionified” camouflage. It has been around since the 1960’s, became popular in the 1990’s, and was part of the women catwalks during fashion shows for spring 2025. This trend is worn by both men and women for a variety of reasons – honoring the earth, a statement of what is happening in the world, a sense of rebellion, or maybe just like me because it is a street fashion staple. I would never wear camouflage head to toe or the “full metal jacket” look but adding a small touch of camouflage to your wardrobe is a must. Whether a t-shirt, scarf, belt or like me as part of a jacket, Viejas, go for it!

Ana- Blending in. That is what camouflage is supposed to be worn for. Yet; in fashion, camouflage is meant to stand out.

I just added the print to my wardrobe and I am still getting used to it.

It was hard to find small items.

Big "Camo" statement coats, jackets, and pants are everywhere. I love baggy and cargo pants but in camouflage print it would be too overwhelming for me. Especially at my age. I do not want to look like I am going to a Halloween party.

Like Corina, for me a little "Camo" goes a long way. I try to make small pieces like a beanie or a T shirt stand out and look flirty but powerful; so I pair them with neutral colors.

Viejas, What would you pair your "Camo" with?
