Bags & Purses
Ana- Viejas, I am 56 years old and I have only bought a hand bag once. Is there something wrong with me? This one time purchase was a statement piece: big, sculptural, and I no longer have it.
The purses I own have all been given to me and they all have sentimental value. My husband and sister have given me purses. I have a 40 year old very unique fanny pack given to me by a dear friend. I have an evening purse; even older than that.
My go to purse is small black one. It was a gift from my mom. I find it a bit impractical, the way it just hangs over my shoulder.
One day "hanging out" with my youngest son, I started complaining about the purse and he said: "ok; stop. I am going to show you something". He showed me how to flip my purse and wear it like a backpack. Now I always wear my purse, I don't just let it hang. Which is why now I am into belt bags. I am just waiting for my upcoming birthday.
Corina - Handbags trends tend to change slower than clothing ones. Therefore, making many handbag styles timeless, which works well for viejas like me. I do not own many bags and the ones I do have are more about utility than anything else. My handbags are neutral colors and classic shapes. They go with a wide range of outfits so I do not have to switch them often. They are also on the larger side so I can fit a lot of "stuff" in them. A shoulder strap is a must, so my hands are always free. However, at times who can resist a trendy style? Remember the wearable cigar box purse? I had to have one!
